GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball hosted Colorado State University - Pueblo on Saturday night.
Harlie Williams (Jr., Norwood, Colorado) scored a game high 17 points for the Mountaineers in the conference and home opener. Despite the effort, Western fell to the ThunderWolves 68-48.
While Williams led all players in scoring, teammate
Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) recorded her first career double-double. Long scored 14 points and grabbed a career high 10 rebounds.
Western (2-1, 0-1 RMAC) suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of CSU-Pueblo (6-1, 1-0 RMAC). The ThunderWolves got out to a fast start, outscoring Western 24-11 in the first quarter.
The Mountaineers picked-up the defense in the second quarter and outscored CSU-Pueblo 17-16. Western went into the break down 12 points, 40-28.
Despite a tough shooting effort by Western, Williams made 6-of-10 field goals, including 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc. As a team, the Mountaineers were held to 28.6 percent (18-of-63) shooting from the field.
Mariana Lambert led the CSU-Pueblo scoring attack, recording 14 points. Lambert also recorded 10 rebounds.
Western will continue the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season next weekend on the road. Western will first travel to New Mexico Highlands University on Friday night before heading to Western New Mexico University for a Saturday night showdown.
