LAKEWOOD, Colo. - It was a historic night for Western State Colorado University women's basketball forward
Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado). McIntosh was just two points shy of 1,000 career points entering Friday night's game against Colorado Christian University. The senior scored eight points, becoming just the sixth Western women's basketball player to score over 1,000 points in a career. The Mountaineers fell to CCU 72-38.
Western (4-14, 3-11 RMAC) was unable to keep CCU (9-11, 9-5 RMAC) from scoring in the first half. The Cougars outscored the Mountaineers 42-15 in the first stanza.
The Mountaineer defense stiffened in the second half, and the offense got off the ground, but CCU also outscored the visitors 30-23 in the second.
Sydnie Lengyel (So., Tempe, Arizona) led the Mountaineers in scoring with nine points. Lengyel also led all players in rebounds, grabbing 10 off the glass.
CCU's Kayla Fakelman led the game in scoring with 20 points.
McIntosh became the first Western women's basketball player since Audra Lawson in 2008 to score over 1,000 points.
The Mountaineers will continue the season Saturday against Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
