PUEBLO, Colo. - It wasn't easy, but No. 5 Western State Colorado University wrestling remained undefeated in conference duals Thursday night.  The Mountaineers climbed back from a six point deficit with four matches remaining to defeat Colorado State University - Pueblo 23-12 on the road.

Western (8-1, 4-0 RMAC) showed fortitude Thursday night, as their four starting seniors forged another dual victory.  The Mountaineers have now won 10 consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference duals.

The comeback started with Elliot Copeland (Sr., Bennetts, Colorado) at 174 pounds.  The three-time All-American was well on his way to a victory when he slipped past his opponents guard and earned a six-point fall with 31 seconds remaining in the match.  This six-point swing tied the dual at 12 points.

Up next was returning All-American Kyle Piatt (Sr., Olathe, Colorado) at 184 pounds.  Piatt earned take-down after take-down and earned a 17-4 major decision.  The Mountaineers regained the lead, 16-12.

Sam Mangum (Sr., McAllen, Texas) at 197 pounds, wrestled a near flawless match, winning by major decision 14-0.  This put the dual out of reach for CSU-Pueblo (7-7, 2-3 RMAC), with the score 20-12.

However, the Mountaineer senior class wasn't finished.  Peter Anguiano (Sr., Elk Grove, California) at 285 pounds, battled through regulation and into four overtimes before defeating his opponent by riding time.

Western earned only two victories in the first six matches of the dual.  Trenton Piatt (Fr., Olathe, Colorado) put the Mountaineers out on top with a 6-4 decision in the 125-pound match.  Devon Zavala (RFr., Denver, Colorado) at 149 pounds also earned a win.  Zavala's decision came by a score of 10-3.

The Mountaineers will continue the season on Saturday at Chadron State College.
