LARAMIE, Wyo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball played Division I opponent Wyoming in an exhibition game on Monday. The Mountaineers were unable to execute the upset and fell to the Cowgirls 104-29 in Laramie, Wyoming.
Western (0-2, 0-0 RMAC) stayed with Wyoming (1-0, 0-0 MWC) for the first 6:05 of the game. Western trailed by just seven points, 7-14 after a jumper by
Ajai Ford (Jr., Los Angeles, California). However, Wyoming would go on to score the following nine points and take a firm grasp on the game.
The Cowgirls went into the break ahead 56-18.
Leading the Mountaineers' scoring attack was
Taylor Long (Fr., Moreno Valley, California), who contributed six points.
Western had nine players reach the scoring column Saturday. All 12 Cowgirls who appeared in the game, scored two or more points.
Wyoming's Kayla Woodward led all players in scoring with 17 points.
The Mountaineers will continue the season next Saturday against the Air Force Academy Falcons in the second exhibition game of the season.
