GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's soccer will play Colorado State University - Pueblo in the annual Pink Match on Friday. The Mountaineers will face CSU-Pueblo at 3 p.m. from Gateway Field on Western's campus. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the soccer match in support of Western State.
Western (5-1-4, 2-1-3 RMAC), who is receiving votes in the national poll, will face CSU-Pueblo (3-4-2, 1-3-2 RMAC) for only the second time in program history. The Mountaineers fell to the ThunderWolves 2-0 last season in Pueblo.
The Mountaineers enter the match looking for redemption after losing their first match of the season last weekend. The Mountaineers fell 1-0 in overtime against New Mexico Highlands University. Western had remained unbeaten in the first nine matches of the season.
CSU-Pueblo is coming off two straight losses to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents. The ThunderWolves lost 1-0 to Metro State University Denver at home before losing 1-0 to Regis University on the road.
Western is currently tied for fourth place in the RMAC with Fort Lewis College. The ThunderWolves are four spots back in eighth.
The Mountaineer defense has held opponents to only four goals on the season, which ranks second in the RMAC. Western will look to exploit this advantage against CSU-Pueblo who has attempted the fewest shots in the RMAC this season.
A large part of Western's defensive success is due to goalkeeper
Meghan Jedrzejewski (Jr., Longmont, Colorado). Jedrzejewski leads the RMAC in total saves at 54 and save percentage at .931.
On Sunday, the Mountaineers travel to Regis University (7-2-1, 5-1 RMAC) to take on the RMAC's second place Rangers.
Regis is currently on a three match win streak and face third place MSU Denver on Friday.
Sunday will be the third match between the two schools. Regis has won the previous two meetings.
