During his junior (1956) and senior (1957) years, Jackson showed he was among the best in the Nation. In 1956 at the NCAA Championships, Jackson finished second in the Skimeister, third in Cross Country and eighth in Nordic combined. At the National Championships in 1957, Jackson finished fifth in Cross Country and sixth in the Nordic combined. He was also a member of the Nordic teams that finished first in the Nation in both 1956 and 1957.
