Maciejko - then Phillips - was Western’s first great female skier. Maciejko attended Western from 1978-81 and was the first female at Western to be given a ski scholarship. Maciejko’s ski career took off as a sophomore in 1979, claiming first place victories in the Slalom at the WSC Invitational and the Winter Park Intercollegiate Invitational and also a first place in the Giant Slalom at the Loveland Derby. At the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Regionals, Maciejko earned All-Conference honors when she finished third in the Slalom and fifth in the GS. Because women were not allowed to compete in the NCAA Championships in 1979, Maciejko competed in the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women National Championships where she earned All-American honors with a ninth place finish in the Slalom and 13th place finish in the GS. That would be the highlight of Maciejko at the National level, as Western was put on probation during her junior and senior years, therefore keeping all teams away from National playoffs or championships. Maciejko did still have some impressive finishes as a senior, winning the Slalom and finishing third in the GS at the Wyoming Invitational and 19th in the GS at the RMISA Regionals.
