Carwin, like Jacoby, was a two-sport All-American, earning the honors in football and wrestling. Carwin attended Western State from 1993-99 and in football was a three-year starter at middle linebacker for the Mountaineers. In his three years as a starter, Carwin was named All-RMAC all three years and was RMAC Player of the Year in 1996 following his junior season. He was also named All-American in 1996 and 97, a member of three RMAC Championships teams (94, 95, 97) and two NCAA Division II National Playoff teams (94, 97). Carwin still holds the Western State record for tackles in a season with 161. In wrestling, Carwin had a career record of 105-28 for the Mountaineers. Carwin was a three-time NCAA Division II National Qualifier (96, 97, 99), three-time All-American, three-time National Finalist and struck gold with a National Championship as a senior in 1999. This championship came after Carwin took a year off to concentrate on making the National Football League. Carwin was also a three-time Colorado Collegiate champion and a three-time NCAA Division II Western Regional champion. Carwin also own the Western State wrestling records for fastest fall (12 seconds), most falls in a season (20) and most falls in a career (60).
