Though his first days as a Mountaineer were delayed a semester due to injury just weeks before his departure from his home in New Zealand, Spratley would quickly make up for lost time in the spring semester. In his initial RMAC indoor track & field championship he would capture the men's 800-meter crown, the first of what would be seven RMAC individual titles over his career. He was a three-time captain of the men's cross country team, including the national championship squad of 1995. A 12 time All-American in his career, Spratley still ranks fourth all-time in NCAA D-II in the men's indoor 1,500, and is third all-time in Western's history in the outdoor 1,500 and ninth on Western's indoor mile list.
