Marshall Seraphine, Basketball, 1936-39, awed regional basketball fans with his accurate shooting and ball handling. In an era when most team scores were in the 30- to 40-point range, he personally scored as many as 35 points in several games in a schedule that included the University of Colorado and all the other major universities of the Rocky Mountain region. He was the only small-college player named to the 1936 Rocky Mountain Conference All-East Division team, which was headed by unanimous-choice Byron "Whizzer" White. After graduation in 1939 and a tour with the army, he attended the CU law school and returned to Gunnison in 1947 to start a 30-year career as an attorney, with activities including service as deputy district attorney and as a trustee for the state-college system.
