Mack Miller, national champion skier and member of the U.S. ski team entered in the 1956 and 1960 Winter Olympics; Time out for service in the U.S. Army stretched Miller's time as a member of Western's ski team spanned the years 1949 to 1957, when he received his bachelor's degree. During those years, he established himself as one of the nation's premier skiers. In 1954, he won the first NCAA four-way skimeister award, which was based on his performances in the major skiing events of the day---downhill, slalom, jumping, and cross country. He then went on to win places as a member of the U.S. cross-country team for the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and for the 1958 World Championships. While working toward his master's degree, he served as assistant coach for the Mountaineers and then went on to an outstanding career as high school and junior national coach in Maine, Wisconsin, and Idaho. He continues to compete in master's ski races at the regional, national, and international levels.
