Jared Haberman grew up along the Arkansas River in La Junta, Colorado. Haberman attended La Junta High School and became a standout wrestler for the Tigers. He wasted no time making a name for himself, winning the Colorado High School State Championships as a freshman. It was a feat Haberman would repeat the following three years, finishing his high school career with an overall record of 134-5 and winning his final 97 prep matches in a row. As a senior in 1999, the coach's son was named the Colorado Dave Shultz Award Winner as Colorado's most outstanding wrestler in all divisions, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Male High School Athlete of the Year and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Colorado High School State Tournament; an award he also won the previous season.

"I knew the day we signed Jared Haberman, we had a special Mountaineer on our hands," Western Head Wrestling Coach Miles Van Hee said. "He was one of the most talented wrestlers I have had the opportunity to coach and is the most successful wrestler when it comes to the National Tournament."

Haberman became a Mountaineer after graduating from La Junta in 1999 and just like in high school, he made an instant impact on his new collegiate team. As a true freshman, Haberman qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships at 125 pounds and earned his first All-America honor, finishing fifth overall.

After redshirting for the 2000-01 season, Haberman qualified and finished third overall at the Division II Championships in 2002. The following season, he finished even better at the national tournament, earning his third straight All-America honor as the national runner-up.

Going into his senior season in 2003-04, Haberman had one goal on his mind, a national championship. Peaking at the right time, Haberman would go on to win the NCAA Division II Regional title and become Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion. He was also named the Outstanding Wrestler of that tournament. With momentum on his side, Haberman rolled through the national tournament, outscoring his opponents 53-4 and earning the NCAA Division II 125-pound National Championship. Haberman became the first Mountaineer to earn All-American honors all four years of his career. To this day, he still stands alone in that category.

"He made the semi-finals of the National tournament all four years and the finals twice.  Jared always stepped up for the big tournaments," Van Hee remarked about Haberman.

After his senior season, Haberman was named the 2004 National Wrestling Hall of Fame Colorado Chapter College Wrestler of the Year.

"He really enjoyed wrestling and would make funny comments like, 'Van Hee, who is this guy from Mercyhurst, PA I have first round at Nationals? I'm going to make him say Mercy first!'  then he would laugh," Van Hee said of Haberman.

Haberman currently lives in Westlake, Texas, while working as the regional investment consulting manager for Fidelity. In 2014, he was the number one producing manager and earned the Presidents Circle Award. He has two daughters, Jaelynne Dawn and Marissa.
