Jimenez wrestled for the Mountaineers from 1986 through 1992, taking a year off from 1987-88. Jimenez was only the third wrestler in Mountaineer wrestling history to earn three All-American titles and was one overtime match away from becoming the first wrestler in Mountaineer wrestling history to become a four time All-American.
Along with his All-American honors, Jimenez was a three-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion, broke the Western State record for career falls and finished with a career record of 99-51-2.
"In 18 years of coaching I never coached anyone as mentally tough as Ernie," Athletic Director Dr.
Greg Waggoner wrote in his nomination letter. "Ernie Jimenez is a special individual, special person and a very special Mountaineer."
Upon graduating, Jimenez was an assistant wrestling coach at Western State before taking a position with technology distributor Avent Inc. as a logistics team planner. Jimenez now lives in Utah and is a production planner for Merit Medical.
