ALLENDALE, Mich. – Western State Colorado University distance runners
Alicja Konieczek (Fr., Zsrit Powodowo, Poland),
Dawid Konieczek (So., Zsrit Powodowo, Poland) and
Adam Sinda (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) advanced to the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals Thursday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships at Grand Valley State University.

Alicja Konieczek was one of 12 athletes to punch a ticket to Friday's women's final, timing 10:33.35 to finish third in her heat and automatically advance. Konieczek's time was the fifth fastest in a field of 20.

In the first of two heats in the men's race, Sinda made a push in the final 50 meters to sneak into fourth place and automatically advance to tomorrow's final with a time of 9:04.85, placing him ninth overall.

Dawid Konieczek followed Sinda, recording 9:04.55 in the second heat. Konieczek was fifth in his race but took fifth overall in the faster of two heats. Of the 12 steeplechase finalists, Konieczek is one of just two underclassmen advancing.

Competing in his first NCAA Championships,
John Patterson wrapped up the day for the Mountaineers in the 10,000-meter final with a time of 30:39.94 for 14th place. Â

In the first race of the day for Western,
Keifer Johnson (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) just missed advancing to the 1,500-meter finals. Johnson timed 3:54.09 to take 13th overall, .56 seconds from a top-four finish in the second heat.

Western will first hit the track tomorrow at 4 p.m. MT with
Justine Podvin (Sr., Lille, France) running in the women's 800-meter prelims. The steeplechase finals are set to begin at 5:15 p.m. with the women's race.
